Winter Term 2009

Class 1/2 : Mr. T. Ogram and Miss. D. Lowe.

We will be focusing on reading and the use of phonics to help with progress this term. Whenever possible, please help your child by listening to them read. Hopefully, this term I will attempt to provide an after school session to explain the use of phonics and how you can use it at home to support your child.

As always, the door is always open should you have any questions or concerns.

Literacy

Numeracy

space This term we will focus on poems; patterns on the page, explanations, extended stories and different stories by the same author. space We take a look at numbers and the number system, calculations, solving problems, measures, shapes and space.

Science

Information Communication Technology
  Light and sound. What happens when light is absent?   Collecting information, looking at how it can be represented by pictograms and finding the easiest way to find information in the data we gather.
Religious Education History
  Light and dark. How light and dark is used to convey meaning in a number of different religions.   The Union Flag. Looking at what Great Britain is and aspects of war including the evacuation of children from Hull.
Design and Technology Art
  Joseph's coat. We will be investigating how different colours and textures can be combined.   Investigating patters. We look at some of the processes involved in making patterns including random and repeating patterns.
Geography   P.S.H.E.
  Around our school investigating the types of buildings and their locations; what the area looks like and how it is looked after.   The children will continue to follow the Nurture Programme as the Health for Life scheme which promotes an awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Music Physical Education
  Sounds Interesting. Creating music with unusual objects and representing events using musical instruments.   Gymnastics and dance.
Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school every Friday.
